You ever REALLY overthink something

I feel like this relates to something Baudrillard said in Simulacra and Simulation, where things stop being things and start becoming signifiers. The fancy cigar, the cocktail, the resort with the beautiful view of the ocean, those all used to be things that you wanted and that money got you, but now they've become signifiers that you have money.

Like steak. A good cut of beef used to be something you were able to enjoy more and more often now that you got rich, but now it's a thing that you eat as part of the wealth signaling, even if you don't like steak. I remember Andrew Tate posting on Twitter about how he actually hates eating, and tries to spend as little time eating as possible because he finds the physical sensation unpleasant, and considers it "gay" to invest serious time and effort into cooking meals.

As silly as it is, the photograph in the original post is high art. It's an almost perfect parody of itself. Everything is framed to highlight the signifiers of his wealth: his toned, muscular body, his laptop, his fancy cocktail glass, his cigar, the beautiful ocean surroundings - the view he had to grind for. But he's alone in the picture, standing in front of a vast expanse of nothingness broken only by two distant islands with nothing identifiable on them. His face is framed in shadow, back turned to the light, looking despondently down at the emptiness of his acquisitions, devoid of the joy they should bring.
