Miss their quait haans restin lowssed oan dusty overalls deen wi the day’s wark, wachty buits ackwart in their sklaik o glaur or pentit spleiter; the carefu wye they sat on buses, gaan hame. My granda’s waak the pleesure o his waak his hertsome dander up Station Road lang widden jyner’s rule pokin oot the nairra pooch o his dungers spleet-new saadist furrin his jaicket. An my faither, tall chiel swingin alang a hyne-awa railway line lang sicht taakin swatch o aathing unner his ontak; fish-plates, bowts, ivery sleeper in its cinner bed, on the keevee for onything amissin – yet his een shairp-set oan the blae far-awa, the mischancie o twa bairns, heelster-gowdie ower steel-glaizie rails – now racin lik a pair o slung-stanes tae walcome his hame-comin.
