Oh haha it's not even doing that, it's just replaying clips of player audio, never mind steamcommunity.com/app/2827200/...
wow that's too obscure for even me

oh dog nabbit
But wow those 15 seconds
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your résumé? John Cage:
I think some amateurish voice acting is charming (I like it in the DROD games for example) but when it's wall-to-wall it gets really grating
Also some games have just WAY too much text and voicing it all just slows down the pace unforgivably
Medium hot take: most video games are books, not movies, and should not have full voice acting
Deleting the original post to avoid unintentionally misleading people but keeping the thread
It did seem strange, like if something was actually generating AI deepfake voices in-engine and in real time that would be kind of a leap from what we've seen previously!

I guess the irony is that if you got 8 individual pressure sensitive key modules you'd end up spending more than that anyway :/
hmm apparently there's also this but I can't vouch for its quality www.reddit.com/r/modular/co...
hey @garrt.bsky.social do you know of anything like this
Yeah seeing how ContentID got implemented I don't trust anybody in tech or the entertainment industry to implement this in any way shape or form that helps individual artists
I guess if we're giving up on benign technologies because of this, the question still becomes where to draw the line. Like is it the size of the machine learning dataset? The particular algorithm? It's not at all clear to me
(In the audio world, the same kind of tech gets used for noise removal and stem separation tools, and very few people have the same kind of issues with that)
It's got me thinking about how we situate our opposition to genAI — is it the tech itself? Is it the way it's used? Is it because it gives us the ick? A lot of things get conflated and it can get tricky to disentangle them
Same here, I'm trying to sort it out too
But it's still getting a lot of "AI slop" accusations in comments and reviews, which is like...... ok
There's really no other way to do this concept, it gets consent from users, it doesn't take work away from voice actors, the environmental impact is negligible
