Just be kind, folks. Be kind, show interest, learn about others and engage when you can. I genuinely feel like I made a better impact on her day. Yeah I'm tired, but that's not stopping me from being kind.

As more people are joining the meeting, the mood has shifted. We're talking about the drinks she used to make and the people she worked with, laughing about it. And after the meeting, she sends me a message; "Thanks for checking in, Toya."

"Where are some good restaurants around where you work?" She didn't have any recommendations for there, but she did start talking about another place nearby where she lives. We looked it up together and she started talking about how she bartended there for a decade. Instantly, she's lighting up.

Coworker came into the morning meeting sounding like she'd been having a rough week. I asked her earlier in the week if she was doing okay, no reply. So I asked her again, got a little more detail. She's having some rough drama with the higher ups on her side. I decided- Nah. Let's change gears.
