Drug testing has (by design) captured all the attention, but it's nowhere near the worst bit. For more than 30 years, benefit levels have been kept lower than the cost of staying alive. On purpose. Campaigning on the back of cutting them even further is monstrous. The cruelty is the point.

"Wannabe"? This is what Paul the Other One calls "framing" (no relation) and this is utterly shit framing from the Herald. They wouldn't call an aspiring Nat or ACT candidate "wannabe", would they? Why could that be?

#nzpol What will political parties do for job security? For strong unions? For working whānau?

Take a look below to see what political parties had to say on 90-day trials, automatic union membership, and paid parental leave.

NZCTU Policy Scorecards for Working People. Question: “Will you protect job security by abolishing 90-day trials?” Results: Labour - Yes; National - No; ACT - No; Green - Yes; Te Pāti Māori - Yes; New Zealand First - No; Alliance - Yes; Opportunities Party - Yes. Green tick indicates Yes, red cross indicates No. Footer notes that National and ACT declined to answer questions on industrial policy, so scores reflect public statements and legislative history. Authorised by New Zealand Council of Trade Unions - Te Kauae Kaimahi. More information: union.org.nz/election-scorecards-26.ZCTU Policy Scorecards for Working People. I've looked at their policy release and I cannot see how they would make this work. It's much more complicated than the Key government scheme, which only kicked in if a jobseeker declined to apply for a job which required pre-employment testing, or if such a test was failed.

objectively not true, and completely unhelpful to making things less oppressive. there is a clear, obvious and MEASURABLE difference between this govt coalition and a labour/greens one.
