I think winning a Texas senate seat and or governor and signaling the state as more purplish would basically render GOP presidential ambitions dead so I think the stakes are that high. Alabama in 2017 always felt like a mirage

In terms of pure bad, it’s still Roy Moore or Mark Robinson, but I also don’t think those specific races had the stakes that a Texas Senate seat has after the way the GOP has dominated the state the last quarter century

In terms of importance and broader political impact it can have, Paxton is definitely the worst canidate for a federal office in the 21st century and I don’t think it’s particularly close

I definitely do think there is a number of shy embarrassed Paxton voters lurking around but I also don’t think there are enough to get him over the finish line
