I have Grandkids - so no longer use Airport Departure Lounges. Natural History has been the unbroken story of my life. Watching wildlife, mostly under Dorset skies. Wrens; Greenfinches; Little Owls; Raptors & Adders are a preoccupation.

Thanks Lucy - the Devonian evening light was kind to the camera - behind the Undercliff, in Uplyme.

Down in the French Lieutenant's Woman country - here, one of the beautiful holloways a few miles inland.
After heavy rain in the night, it was dripping wet in all it's green gloriousness.

Nuts will produce a radicle, which is known as the first root. This can be encouraged by keeping the seeds in a bucket of leaf mould and turning them gently so they don't rot. Once you see the radicle start to sprout, you can then plant the seed!

This late Cuckoo has been at Low Newton for the last few days. A fearless juvenile, more concerned with finding caterpillars than the people stood nearby watching it. At one point it landed right at my feet to pluck a caterpillar out of the grass, amazing !

Jay update - my acorn supply is now very low - the only ones I have been able to obtain are from the Waitrose car park - there are none whatsoever in the Dorset/Wilts woodlands. I found a few under an American Oak but these are mostly rejected. Sweet Chestnuts & smaller conkers are taken readily.

We've launched our seventh #MartensOnTheMove Monitoring Hub in the Dulais and Swansea Valleys. With only a handful of unconfirmed records, we're hoping trail cameras will reveal whether pine martens are using this important wildlife corridor.

Having worked in A&E I can confirm that 'fall from a height (ladders)' is an extremely common coding description for an A&E attendance. Dodgy ladders cause much eye-rolling in the staff room...

Today the Alt. #BirdOfTheDay theme is #GardenBirds; any bird that you might see in your garden.
Here we have the Wren, who is busy catching Crane Flies - they are at their peak in the garden at the moment and are a key seasonal food source for the Wren.
