Tino married Michelle Nanne, daughter of Minnesota North Stars player and general manager Lou Nanne, and stayed in Minnesota after his playing career. He opened Tino’s Cafe Pizzeria in Shoreview (now apparently closed), and had stands at the State Fair and Renaissance Festival at one time.
Lettieri played for the Minnesota Kicks (1977-81) and Vancouver Whitecaps (1982-84) in the NASL before joining the Strikers in the NASL and the MISL (Major Indoor Soccer League) from 1984-87. He also played for Canada in the 1976 and 1984 Olympics and the 1986 World Cup.
Soccer cards from my childhood #1: Tino Lettieri, 1987 Pacific. Tino was my first favorite soccer player when I was a kid. My parents took me to Minnesota Strikers games at the Met Center and his big personality and the plush parrot that he kept on the goal really captured my young attention.
New #HatOfTheDay is another great vintage find I made recently, a 1990s Germany cap by adidas!
Well, this is going to be in my head for a bit! youtu.be/xW5hRE5XDGM?...
