Despite the handle, I research and write about Ireland's brewing history and recreate Irish historical(ish) beers. Also posting food, and nonsense. Seemingly, I'm a 'gloomy beer drinker' who's 'lost in the froth on his pint.'

To my palate, there core range are all excellent beers, I'm especially fond of their golden ale. They had a Festbier on in the tap room a couple of weeks back that was very good too, and brewed on the premises ...

Don't get me started on that other crowd of chancers. Theakston should be hanging their heads in shame ...

Remember: if it *doesn't* say it's brewed in Ireland, it's not brewed in Ireland. And if it *does* say it's brewed in Enniscorthy, it's brewed in Yorkshire.

Pleasant beer in a pleasant size serving for a weeknight ...

Morte Subite Kreik poured into a branded glass with a bottle of gueuze beside it.

I believe you are correct. I'll have to look closer the next time I'm at the beer store. I want to say Connecticut. The only pictures I have are of the front of the cans, and there is a subtle change. From "brewed in Ireland," to "batch brewed Irish style ale"

Btw, pubs try that sort of dodgyness here too and it's all fake. Any pub here that claims a date earlier that the 19th c. is probably telling porkies ...

The business closed in the very early 1900s, I know its history. You can't start a brand new brewing business a century later, use a name with a very loose family connection, and plaster on a load of dubious history and a fake 1702 date. There wasn't a Sullivan's brewery until the early 19th c. ...

After I completed @akrennmair.bsky.social’s excellent Bavarian White Beer, I had many questions about the author behind the book. Andreas is doing wonderful, essential historical research, and I wanted to know more about his background, life, and process.

... and they only started brewing in Kilkenny last year. Plus, I was *told* the beers for America are brewed over there ...

'Sullivan's Brewing Company, Ireland's oldest commercial brewery...' Not even close! I'm fond of Sullivan’s taproom as a place, of their beers, and some of the people, but it's rubbish like this that really annoys me about them. I was at their pre-launch in 2016! I'm old, but not that old ...

As someone who find the 'plain' Duvel a bit meh, this interests me greatly based on the description. This is what beer reviewing is all about. It's not about stars and ratings, it's about effectively articulating what you taste ...
