that's exactly what i mean! he's been this platonic ideal of a campbell-esque Hero for our culture for so long. he's kind of a cipher that people can imprint themselves onto. (most main-series star wars characters are imo.) but i'd argue TLJ is the first time he feels like a Person.

also agree, bc the canto bight sequence is pretty fun. i think TLJ is the most thematically dense star wars movie, but it also remembers that star wars is primarily a fun adventure series for kids.

totally agree. for me it's the fact that he saw the value in telling a story about how a legacy can rot over time and that the solution is to move forward, with that theme centered around Luke Skywalker *in particular.* cannot think of a better vehicle for that idea in modern pop culture
