We love you Ted

Yeah, here’s a question for everyone: is there something you learned from me or read based on something I posted about that has stuck with you?

Despite the closure of my NGL, I remain Alex Jaffe, professional DC Comics expert. As always, you may ask me any question you have about comics or DC and I will do my best to provide the most thoughtful and satisfactory answer I can.

Oh yeah, those.

I don’t know if I’ve seen the ones you’re referring to

I think Roy tends to be put into two buckets, depending on who’s writing or reading him: the former drug addict, and Lian’s Dad. The way Chris Condon approached that dichotomy in his tragically truncated Green Arrow run was really interesting, and I wish we got to see some more after that.

My favorite G Willow Wilson comic I’ve read was The Dreaming: Waking Hours, her contribution to the Sandman universe. It’s shameful how poisoned that well has become for all the great writers and artists it inspired.

Happy National Coming Out Day

I meet so many people who are so quick to paint Alan Moore as an angry crank but his anger is always vindicated

I think Tom King dialogue benefits a lot from world class actors delivering it. I love that it doesn’t shy away from the oddities of Hal Jordan’s personality, and it genuinely presents the most interestingly synthesized version of John Stewart’s personality we have seen to date.

You can ask me whatever you like as long as it’s respectful

I’d say do it in bursts, but don’t burn yourself out. Switch to something else when you need a break. It was designed to be read one issue a week, not all at once.

Not in any story that comes to mind, but the original run of World's Finest covers often featured Batman, Robin, and Superman hanging out and doing stuff together, like in this one from 1948:

It really depends on how you define the parameters of “death,” and whether it has to hang or find resolution before the end of an issue or two. The only real concentrated, in-continuity, line-wide “Batman is dead” storyline was the period following Final Crisis.

The one I always think about is this silent one, from Watchmen

If I don’t keep getting questions about comics to answer I don’t know what I’m gonna do with myself
