Sandwiches, Easter eggs and - poison??? #BLCC kaggsysbookishramblings.wordpress.com/2026/10/07/s...
For the afternoon crowd - my thoughts on a wonderfully entertaining GA crime anthology recently out from @blpublishing.bsky.social - a real treat! @martinedwardsbooks.bsky.social
Two brilliant books about very different forms of forced displacement are out this month on either side of the Atlantic: The Refugee Chronicles by Evgeny Shtorn, published in Ireland by @skeinpress.bsky.social and Brais Lamela's What Remains, published by @dorothyproject.bsky.social in the US
Ha! I now always think of that after you pointed that out.
Overwintered is scheduled to be released in February, 2027, and you can preorder it, which helps both writers and their publishers.
This hybridity is evident in the mixture of languages, as she incorporates Russian and Arabic into her English-language poetry to reflect her multiple identities. The three poems featured below showcase these themes.
Enjoy poems from Elina Katrin’s collection Overwintered (@triohousepress.org, 2027) -- full poems available on Punctured Lines. Katrin is a Syrian-Russian immigrant poet who lives in Los Angeles. Her poems are characterized by themes of immigration, dislocation, and cultural hybridity.
This book is both lyrical and tells a unique and rather sad story of migration. As the world rebuilds its walls, those of us with families elsewhere become ever so trapped and disconnected. It's good to have these poems for companionship and solace.
It is. I find it very calming to look at water, which is helpful when everything is chaos.
Down Pacific Coast Highway. It was hard to capture, but the waves were big. LA is an amazing place.
ICYMI, with many thanks to @olgaz.bsky.social for help with editing and technology.

Great connection - I didn't think about that, but of course.
Between my lack of technical skills and my lack of Arabic-language skills, what could possibly go wrong?!
Thank you @triohousepress.org for publishing Katrin's collection. It is now available for pre-order:

And I also love the way this poem appears to be in conversation with the poem by Jane Muschenetz, "Yevgenia," that we published three years ago and that appeared in her collection ALL THE BAD GIRLS WEAR RUSSIAN ACCENTS.
In her poems, Elina Katrin beautifully captures the multicultural immigrant experience. She begins with her name, showing the way her Russian and Syrian roots weave together in three syllables that to many in her adopted country continue to be inscrutable.

Now on the blog.
