I just wish tapes existed of Body & Soul that we could hear. Crucial era in our music.
OMG. Wow. His "house" album. I played Shirihama Beach on The Sunset Soiree a couple of weeks ago. I knew he had some soulful, deep house in him.
I have the absolute honor to guest host the longest running Grateful Dead radio show in the country tonight.
Tune in to Lone Star Dead, Friday Night at 8pm CT on KNON 89.3FM. www.knon.org
We will bask in the vibes of a classic show the guys did 43 years ago tonight. cc @bourgwick.bsky.social
Patti Harrison is one of the funniest, weirdes, craziest comedic actors our there. Nice one.
You got FK and Claussell next to you, so you got my vote.
Tour De France | Kraftwerk | 1983
A Kraftwerk standalone single from 1983. They did eventually theme a whole album around it but the original single version is a beauty. Possibly the only single featuring heavy breathing that received radio play.
I remember back in the late 80s, when dudes were putting huge subwoofers in their car to mostly play Miami Bass hip hop stuff. But they would also play Tour De France, which was awesome.
Influential albums cont. Flying Saucer Attack – Further(1995)
What a dumbf*&k infant.
Jazz OTD: It's hard to pick the best of Andrew Hill's uniformly excellent 1960s Blue Note recordings, but "Compulsion!!!!!" - recorded October 8, 1965 - is certainly among the most memorable, for the intensity of the compositions and its varied instrumentation. The remarkable closing track. #Jazzsky

New & Notable: A stunning box set from jazz icon Dave Holland arrives as the perfect summary of his career-in-progress.
“It was a process of experimentation, exploration, and filtration. Getting rid of things, building on things, focusing on things, leaving things, putting things in, leaving things out.” Don’t miss Blake Leyh’s conversation with Jon Hassell collaborator Jeff Rona on The Tonearm:
Can't believe Colin Jost was able to film this aboard the ship! But, seriously, what an incredible douchebag.
So inspiring.
