Yeah a lot of South American countries seem much more advanced in considering the import of social media and they really should be great candidates for this

Whether it is text-based or video-based, the commons are being rolled up, walled, and then whatever algorithm is there is atrocious and bad for you. Here, there’s a way out. But like, it actually has to be nurtured and grown

My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.
