Yes, but in reverse. Placentas use proteins (syncytins) that orginated in viruses that inserted genes into mammal genomes. Now we have them in our DNA. Now I'm reporting about how a human gene ended up in a virus (that apparently uses it against us) doi.org/10.1007/s110...
