The takeaway from Bo French suggesting Asian students are “foreigners” and the tepid GOP response is that the Trump-era Republican Party is increasingly explicit about its belief that the only good immigrants, and the only real Americans, are white. (Gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/1...

The Afrikaner policy is illuminating, because it proves the catch-22 facing nonwhite immigrants: If you are poor, you are a moocher, and if you are gainfully employed, you are taking a job from a hardworking American. The only way to be a good immigrant is to be white and Christian.

Bo French, who is running for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission, has taken this idea a step further, suggesting that the only way to be an American is to be white and Christian.

I was literally, today, reading through firsthand testimony of Colfax survivors.

I've been immersed in research on Reconstruction in Lousiana and it's a very difficult truth to absorb that the white terrorist movement in the South was among the most successful terrorist movements in global history. Took 10 years but it won a total & complete victory through murder and atrocity.

As always with Rs, the sense is not so much that they deny the physical phenomenon of climate change as the presence or absence of the phenomenon simply never enters their thinking. They interact with it *purely* as a partisan matter, something libs care about. No awareness of a world beyond.

Burgum: "You don't the word 'climate change' as much as you did two years ago, because the legs have been knocked out from under that movement"

This a perfect little clause summing up our very very strange times.

yes and ala cybersecurity, you end up with a kind of arms race on each side with ai powering lots more calls on a service and then ai on the other side doing a lot more screening.

RIP Cubs 2026. PCA season was amazing and I’m grateful, pitching injuries too much to overcome, but also: it continues to burn that this organization with all its resources keeps getting lapped by Milwaukee. This year felt like a step back.

yes they absolutely should be redesigned, but I also think it's possible - and I don't know, can't predict the future - that as the technology diffuses the entire interface this set of tasks totally changes across the board, in the same way the internet/phone access changed it and even more.

I was actually talking about the Caribbean where I think the legal argument for murder is even stronger than the arguments in the Iran context, though there are definitely arguments there.

remember: it saved no net money, social services US citizens are getting cut, and left the US in a weaker place geopolitically. none of the debates about fiscal responsibility, obligation to US citizens first, or 'hard choices' actually apply. they're all bullshit. killed people for nothing at all.

Still kind of inconceivable how many people died or will die because of the death of USAID. And the world’s richest man did it almost as a joke

There are so many tasks in managing a household that are annoying and a time suck and not fulfilling or interesting in any way and not really outsource-able in any way that would be great to offload. Please, yes, figure out what I actually owe my dentist and pay it, thank you.

Bracketing for a moment whether it *works* or whether Meta can be trusted, this does strike as obviously the most appealing and genuinely useful application of the technology for people in their actual lives.

OWilliam B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 11:07 PM

'you're cognitively offloading'. yes. correct. that is what i wish to do. i do not wish to expend cognition figuring out which pharmacist takes my insurance and is closest. i want to offload it & be told who that is. you are free to continue manually doing this task you evidently find so meaningful
