Ever made a terrible experience funny, then wondered why you still haven't dealt with it?Things I thought were normal…

I thought if I could make a terrible experience funny, it meant I'd dealt with it.

Turns out, humour can help you process something.

But it can also help you talk about something without actually feeling it.

If everyone's laughing, nobody's asking how badly it hurt.

And sometimes, neither are you.

I'm not saying every joke hides trauma.

But maybe ask yourself: am I laughing because I've made peace with it, or because that's the only way I can talk about it?

And then somehow convince myself I missed something.
Apparently, that's called overthinking.
I THOUGHT IT WAS NORMAL
TO TELL TRAUMA STORIES
LIKE THEY WERE FUNNY ONES.
I could tell you something absolutely horrible that happened to me and make you laugh while I was telling it.
For years, I thought that was normal.
Then I realized I wasn't laughing because it was funny.
I was laughing because I didn't know how else to tell the story.
