You don't have to stop loving someone in order to leave them, but love isn't always a reason to stay.
IF YOU'VE EVER LOOKED AT A FICTIONAL CHARACTER AND THOUGHT, “I UNDERSTAND WHY YOU DID THAT... BUT WHAT THE F%$K?” THIS IS FOR YOU.
Then:
Psychologically messy fiction has taught me a lot about people.
And some of it is deeply uncomfortable.
People can love you and still hurt you.
Knowing something is bad for you doesn't mean you'll stop doing it.
Most people don't think they're the villain.
The thing that once protected you can eventually hurt you.
And people can change without becoming completely different people.
That's why I love complicated characters.
They make us look at ourselves a little differently.
I can turn one sentence you said three days ago into a full psychological investigation.
I thought everyone did this.
Replay the conversation.
Analyze the tone.
Reconsider your response.
Invent three possible meanings.
And then somehow convince myself I missed something.
Apparently, that's called overthinking.
Why are we so f$%king interested in people we don't even like?
Because complicated people make us work for the answer.
They're contradictory.
They surprise us.
They make terrible choices.
And we keep thinking:
“But WHY the hell did you do that?”
Maybe we're not fascinated by the mess.
Maybe we're fascinated by the person underneath it.
That's why I love psychologically messy stories.
The person is never just the behaviour.

IF YOU'RE EDITING YOUR PERSONALITY FOR THE DATING APPS, STOP.

GET THE CRAZY OUT OF THE WAY.
I tell people my life story pretty fucking early.
Not because I’m trauma dumping.
Because I don't want to pretend to be normal long enough to get someone attached.
Tell them the weird shit.
The complicated shit.
Then see who sticks around.
Because some of my best lovers?
They knew the whole fucking mess from the beginning.

Life's messy. So are my stories.
