A landscape painting of Cardiff Bay at Dawn, with a golden medal in the centre of the screen, a rainbow soundwave and selection of birds collected in this level
Screen recording of Dawn Chorus Quest, a web game where players collect and share birdsong. The screen shows a colourful soundwave playing over a gold collectors medal, surrounded by cameo portraits of the birds identified in this level of the game, the Caledonian Coast of Aberdeen, Scotland, about 8000 years ago. Pre-dawn glimmer over the early Cardiff mudflats, gold sparkles rising with the songwave, robin singing: "Can you hear who's singing?"

Pip, a long tailed tit, flies in and perches on a rainbow songwave floating magically in the middle of the ancient forest: "Meet Pip."

Six places are shown on screen, as 'storybook' illustrations of the chapters in the game, each with its name and region label and three birds singing in turn, each with portrait, name and its own little songwave: Bath (Somerset, England): Cuckoo, Nightingale, Tawny Owl.
Saxonvale (Frome, Somerset): Dipper, Woodpigeon, Grey Wagtail.
Aberdeen (Aberdeenshire, Scotland): Crested Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Treecreeper.
Cardiff (Glamorgan, Wales): Mute Swan, Moorhen, Coot.
Ely (Cambridgeshire, England): Bittern, Crane, Marsh Harrier.
Dungeness (Kent, England), with a gold "NEW" tag: Oystercatcher, Shelduck, Redshank.

Four portraits while a robin sings; the robin is picked and a gold Pip medal pops: "Listen. Guess. Collect."

A grid of twelve portraits fills in: "Six places, 12,000 years, and 80 birds".

Eight birds circle a large gold medal with Pip's face embossed on it, underneath a colourful soundwave as the dawn chorus swells: "Find every bird. Unlock the full chorus."

Close on Pip: "Dawn Chorus Quest / Could you collect the chorus? / Share and enjoy!" and the web address bird-times.lovable.app.
Screen recording of Dawn Chorus Quest, testing the new level set in Ely,

Ely's name comes from 'eel island'. The monastery, founded in 673, sat on a 30-metre ridge of Jurassic clay, surrounded by impassable marsh. The fen fed the town with eels, fish and wildfowl. The cathedral was built from local Barnack stone, floated across the marsh on rafts.
