One of the hardest memories I carry from growing up in Palestine is the story of my schoolmate, Amjad. 🇵🇸 Amjad was a boy I went to school with. He was just a child — someone who should have been thinking about school, friends, and growing up. Instead, he was shot. In this clip, I talk about Amjad and the memories of growing up in Palestine in the 1980s — memories of ordinary childhood mixed with experiences that no child should have to endure. His story is one of the memories that stayed with me for decades, and it is part of why I felt compelled to write Scars and Medals. This isn’t just history from a textbook. These are memories of people I knew.
