Although my supplies are running a bit low (I'm placing food order tomorrow), I still managed to prepare charcuterie bowls tonight for the opossums.
I'm feeding three injured/abandoned opossums who arrive and eat in shifts. They're so sweet.
Here is the meal for shift #1.
Just the 4th Eared Grebe in our care over the last decade, this juvenile was found unwilling to walk and with an eye injury in the middle of the road. We're happy to share that it continues to recover, and we look forward to its return to the wild.
Baths will continue until morale improves. Did you see Tuesday's post about this Great Horned Owl caught in a glue trap? It's doing well after multiple baths, but there's still a ways to go. We're being playful, but glue traps are no laughing matter. Just ask this owl.
Meet Monday, a juvenile Merlin found in Juneau, AK, not flying and struggling to get away from human presence. After some x-rays, our team found a fracture in his right clavicle. Stay tuned for updates!

Have you appreciated bats recently? Was it for their supreme cuteness? Or maybe their role as pest-control predators?
Either way, we should all be appreciating bats more every day!

Itβs Freedom Friday! π After nearly a month in care recovering from lacerations caused by a cat encounter, this gorgeous Garter Snake is back in the wild. Not every release is dramatic. Sometimes, we just open the lid and let curiosity take over!
This Long-billed Dowitcher, named Meep, was found here in Sitka, AK, after a suspected collision with a building. After a few days of rest and recovery here at the Alaska Raptor Center, this little bird is ready to head back out into the wild!

Need a little break? π¦ Take 10 minutes to relax with juvenile Gray Foxes and a Sacramento Valley Red Fox stretching, snoozing, snooping and playing. And while some animals ignore our cameras, these foxes sniff, investigate, rub and roll on them. Enjoy!
We feel like these three are definitely up to something. If this were the opening scene of a movie, what would the title be? π¬π¦

Look how wild our deer fawn enclosure has grown! We allow natural foliage to grow in this space to help our young deer patients to express natural behaviours.
