A Zebra Jumping #spider (Salticus scenicus) on a fence post in the garden. She was very active, but also fairly tolerant of a human waving a camera and diffuser in her face. #arachtober #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #arachnids

A very small spider viewed from head on, and slightly off their right hand side. It's on rough sawn wood of a fence post which is a light brown. The depth of focus is very shallow, and so the foreground and back ground are quite blurred. But the face of the spider, with it's large black two main eyes, and the small eyes adjacent to them, is in focus. It has quite large, shiny black jaws. But it's legs, body and head are covered in short hairs, mainly white, but also some black, particularly on top of it's head, and the occaisional light brown ones. It gives it an attractive appearance as if it's been painted with thin strokes of water colour paint.

A face, & body, only a mother could love? A fly from the Anthomyiidae family, feeding on a Willow Leaf. I don't have the skills to try to identify it further! Whilst it's not "cute" it's certainly fascinating to see close up. #diptera #MacroMonday #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates

A fly viewed side on from the same level, as it sits on a bright green leaf, against a black background. The fly's eye has caught the light so that each lens can be seen, and its mouthpart is extended, pushing the bristly 'tounge' against the leaf surface as it feeds. The thorax is pale with thick, dark, but sparse, long black hairs emerging from it. The abdomen is covered in shorter fluffier black hairs, but still thin enough that the exoskeleton can be seen underneath. The wings are folded and are being viewed along their edge, so look very thin.

#InternationalJumpingSpiderDay you say?! A chance to share a photo of Zoey the Zebra Jumping #spider from earlier in the year, when she was living in our porch. Here she was climbing down one of the window panes. #arachtober #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates

A spider stands on a shiney black surface, staring at the camera with two large black eyes. She has two slightly smaller eyes to the outside of the main ones that give her her cute appearance. She is covered in dense hairs that give her a mottled appearance made up of white, blakc, and light brown colours.

A Noble False Widow #spider has taken up residence in our kitchen. I honestly think she might have been there 2yrs, which doesn't say much for my dusting. I love them, please ignore the scaremongering bollocks the tabloids print about them. #arachtober #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates

A square photo of a spider against a light brown wood background. She is viewed from above, sat in the bottom left corner of the frame, facing the top right corner. Her eight legs are bright red, her abdomen is dark brown with a crescent of white on the front edge of it and a pale white pattern in the middle.

A Cross Orbweaver #spider (Araneus diadematus) in the garden. Rather than hide, this one is using her camouflage on a Queen Anne's Lace seed head to sit with a leg on her signal line, ready to scurry up her web when something arrives. #wildlifefrommywindow #arachtober #invertebrates #MacroMonday

A spider sits on a seed head that looks like it's made of a cluster of tiny clams with spikey shells (each one is about 2mm long). They're all light to mid brown. The spider is a similar colour, and is mainly side on, looking frm right to left in the frame. She has the two front legs closest the camera slightly outstretched as she balances herself. She needs to do this as the opposite two front legs are raised up, holding onto a signal line frm the centre of her web. She's waiting to feel vibrations that would indicate she has caught some prey. Her legs have thick dark and light brown stripes across them. Her head is clearly visible, covered in light brown hairs, and her abdomen is positioned so that the white spots that make the cross shape from which she gets her common name, are just visible against the chestnut brown surroundings.

From a few weeks ago, an Ivy #Bee was feeding on the Marjoram (before the Ivy flowered). As he went from 🌸 to 🌸 he was oblivious to the Flower Crab #spider that lurked in wait. When it came to it, he was too quick and the spider went hungry. #wildlifefrommywindow #arachtober #invertebrates

A square photo of a woody brown stem of Marjoram with flower heads hanging off the side of it. They're light green with tiny white flowers at the end. The bee is hanging head down from the top most flower head, as it travels downwards to other flowerheads. The bee has thick pale yellow and black stripes on it's abdomen, and light grey fluffy hairs under its thorax. On the second lowest flower head, in the shade, is a small white crab spider. It is watching the bee approach with its front legs spread ready to pounce.

Be rude not to take a photo of a seasonal star, the Ivy #bee. This time of year it's clear to see why Ivy's so important, it's buzzing with bees, flies, and wasps. #MacroMonday #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #UKWildlife

A squre photo that is a close up of an Ivy Bee on a cluster of Ivy flowers. Each ivy flower is like an icecream cone of green on the end of a pale green stalk, radiating from the ivy stem. Eacy flower is about the size of the little bees head. The bee is drinking from one flower with it's antennae pointed downwards. It has large black eyes, with an fuzzy orange face, and very pale hairs being its eye. The thorax is covered in short orange hairs, and the abdomen is striped with black and pale yellow.

A sparrowhawk captured something again in our garden yesterday. Very few birds to be seen afterwards. But this lunchtime our robin was back.

A Cross Orb Weaver #spider for #MacroMonday and #FatSpiderFortnight. This one had a nice big web across the veg garden, and I liked the backlit look. #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates
#arachnids

A square photo of a spider on its web. The background is black and the strands of the web are white, highlighted by the sunlight shining on them frm outu of frame. The spider is backlit so, although the main body is the usual dark black and brown with white dots and lines making a cross shape down its centre, the legs and head are glowing where they should be a light colour, as the sun shines through. It brings out the dark and light bands on the legs in particular. The spider is head down int he frame with the legs pulled in close to the body, ready to scurry after anything unfortunate enough to get caught in the web.

Didn't think I'd find a Flower Crab Spider for #fatspiderfortnight, but there was a small female on one of the anemones. Going to have a hunt for some of the other species in the project today... #wildlifefrommywindow #arachids #invertebrates
uk.inaturalist.org/projects/fat...

A square photo, with the yellow heart of a flower showing one quadrant in the top left corner. Radiating out frm it are deep pink petals that fill the rest of the frame. In the bottom right corner one of the petals is slightly curled at the end, and behind this there is a pale yellow spider. It is facing the camera, with its front legs outstretched. These are the dominant feature of the spider that is visible, other than its face, as it hides waiting to catch an insect.

A Rose #aphid nymph on our Dog Rose for #MacroMonday. There's quite a collection of them feeding on fresh shoots that are being put up now the heatwaves are over. #hemiptera #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates

A close up landscape photo of a cluster of aphids on a rose stem. The rose stem can't be seen because there are so many aphids! All the aphids are a bright green, nicely contrasted against a dark out of focus background. The frame is centred so the emphasis is on a younger nymph which is looking to the right in the frame, viewed side on and from slightly above. It has tiny black eyes, a rectangular body, with some nubs of wings that will mature as it grows. At the back of its body it has two horns that stick out backwards. In the mature aphids these are black.

A Three Spotted Nettle #bug for #macroMonday, a pretty small bug that's about 4mm long. It's in the process of plunging its mouthparts into a nettle, a rigid straw through which it can drink fluid from the plant. #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #gardenwildlife #Hemiptera

A landscape photo of a bug on a nettle flower head. The flower head stretches up the left hand side, and the bottom, of the frame. And is a complicated shape made up of light green stalk with very pale hairs, and very delicate, amost fluffy looking, white flowers. The bug is standing in the in the left hand corner that the flower head makes. It is light green, with dark brown patches and is facing out the frame and to the right. It has long antennae, and green alien like eyes in which the hexagona individual lenses can be seen. From below the eyes its beak, a long rigid straw, is protruding and pointing straight down, ready to be plunged into the plant to feed.
