The western bitter bolete is a mostly pale yellow bolete with a magical characteristic: it stains blue when bruised or cut. To show off this fun color-changing ability, my wife cut a slice of the cap off and wrote "I'm blue" in the yellow pores of the slice, and the words immediately turned a deep blue, along with the cut edges of the mushroom. 📷 Canon R5 Mk II Canon RF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Canon Speedlight Flash Cygnus Tech Diffuser M, f/5.6, 1/4, ISO 400 Single image 10/3/26 Northern Oregon Coast
