WIp snip post with flame border. Text reading: "“Hey man. Get up.” He jostled the small body, gently at first, but more frantically as his worry mounted. Nothing. He felt the cat's abdomen, and the gentle rise and fall of his stomach relieved him. He remained still, looming above Alistair. He knew that he had to continue moving forward but his condition reduced him, made him fearful. This very spot was safe. He was a fly stuck on fly paper, not fortunate enough to have escaped or been swatted.

Being stuck was a luxury however, and the illusion of safety was swiftly shattered as he again heard a clatter in the distance, growing louder this time. Soon he heard screeches, sorrowful howls, and the flapping of wings. He grabbed the cat, held the scruff of his neck between his teeth, and scurried like hell. He got fully up on his hands and one good knee. They were shredded against the rough, rocky soil as he moved. The screeching and yowling grew louder and louder. He didn't have much time left.

Smacking his face against the boulder came as an enormous relief. He tried to calm his breathing, and listen for the direction of the screams over the pounding of his heart beat in his ears. He circled the rock slowly, bumping his shoulder as he made his way around. They were close. Once he felt he was situated opposite to the oncoming torrent of nightmarish sounds, he released the cat onto the ground and collapsed over him. The demons passed overhead, and he laid as still as possible. He made a mental note of the direction they were heading. As they flew above, he was certain he heard the yowling of desperate cats, which he had come to know rather intimately.

After the sound faded well into the distance, Devon sat up against the stone, and held his friend in his lap. He tried waking him again to no avail.
