47 years ago today, October 13, 1979, Sylvia debuted at #78 with her very 1st single on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “You Don’t Miss a Thing”. It went on to peak at #36 and spent a total of 10 weeks on the chart.

An image of the 45 RPM vinyl record, “You Don’t Miss a Thing”, by Sylvia. It was her debut single on RCA Records released in 1979.

This is one song that eluded me for a while. It wasn’t until a kid that I used to babysit for finding a copy at an old record store in Seattle, and he sent it to me around 1989. Otherwise, I probably would not have heard it until it was included in Sylvia’s “Anthology” CD released in 1997 as it was not included in her first album, "Drifter” in 1981. An image of black and white sheet music of “You Don’t Miss a Thing”, by Sylvia released on RCA Records in 1979.

She autographed it for me in 1999 in Jackpot, Nevada. Sylvia was surprised to see this when I asked her if she would sign it for me. She mentioned that this sheet music is a rarity as RCA didn't make that many.

I'm so grateful to have it in my treasured collection and to have it autographed is icing on an already sweet cake.An image of a black and white publicity photo of Sylvia, one of the first ever taken, if not the first right after she signed with RCA Records in 1979. “Cry Baby Cry” was also the B-side to her Top 10 smash hit “The Matador” and both were included in her debut album, “Drifter” released in 1981.

42 years ago today, October 13, 1984, Reba McEntire debuted at #62 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “How Blue”. It went on to peak at #1 and spent a total of 23 weeks on the chart.

An image of the 45 RPM vinyl record, “How Blue”, by Reba McEntire on MCA Records from her album, “My Kind of Country” released in 1984.

This song stood out on the radio with such a different sound. I sure welcomed the change Reba made for a more traditional style with her music. I went right out and bought the record. It’s from a great album, only one song in it that I don’t like much.

My mom, little brothers and I really liked hearing this song on the radio. It surely was a favorite and brings back such wonderful memories of those old times.

Reba's follow-up single, "Somebody Should Leave" in 1985 was another instant favorite for all of us. It was released at the same time as our most favorite vocalist released a new single with a new sound, "Fallin' In Love", by Sylvia - Such a favorite fun and upbeat song that can bring me up when I'm feeling so down in the dumps. 41 years ago today, October 12, 1985, Don Williams debuted at #79 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “It’s Time for Love”. It went on to peak at #20 and spent a total of 19 weeks on the chart.

#vinylcommunity #legendary #countrymusic #vocalist #guitarist #vinylcollection #musicislife

An image of the 45 RPM vinyl promo record, "It’s Time for Love" by Don Williams, from the album, "Greatest Hits Vol. IV" released on MCA Records in 1985-86.

(Same song on both sides). The date on the record label shows 1984 even though the single was released in 1985. It also shows the album that it comes from titled, “The Best of Don Williams Vol. VI”.

After such phenomenal success, a whopping 8 #1 country hits and an additional 8 Top 10s with MCA Records beginning in 1979. This was his last single on that label before moving over to Capitol for about 3 years. Then onto RCA until around 1992.

Don Williams chalked up a total of 17 Billboard #1 country singles and 28 Top 10s starting in 1974 on Dot (ABC) Records. That also includes a duet “If I Needed You”, #3 hit with Emmylou Harris on Warner Brothers Records in 1981.An image of "Greatest Hits Vol. IV” album front cover, by Don Williams released on MCA Records in 1985. It peaked at #60 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and stayed in the Top 75 for 5 weeks.

There's some confusion; the album cover shows it as “Greatest Hits Vol. IV”, but the label on the vinyl 33 RPM, has it displayed as “The Best of Don Williams Vol. VI”. It was a little confusing doing research on this album. I’m glad the folks with MCA at least got the Volume # correct. An image of "Greatest Hits Vol. IV” album back cover, by Don Williams released on MCA Records in 1985-86.

41 years ago today, October 12, 1985, Kenny Rogers debuted at #65 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart with “Morning Desire”. It went on to peak at #1 and spent a total of 22 weeks on the chart.

(Same song on both sides) An image of the 45 RPM vinyl promo record, "Morning Desire" by Kenny Rogers, from the album, "The Heart of the Matter" released on RCA Records in 1985.

Back then a friend that was the music director at KYAK asked me if I thought this song would be a hit or if I thought the new single, at that time from Conway Twitty, “The Legend and the Man” would be a hit. I wrongly chose Conway’s song. Turns out “Legend” peaked at #19 for two weeks, and Kenny went on to achieve another #1 smash hit.

Extra note; Dave Loggins, cousin of Kenny Loggins, is the writer of this song. He had a big #5 Pop hit with “Please Come to Boston” in 1974.An image of "The Heart of the Matter” album front cover, by Kenny Rogers released on RCA Records in 1985.
