Anyone with an interest in history would enjoy visiting the museums of #Vindolanda & the #RomanArmyMuseum. Hadrian's Wall was at the edge of a vast, powerful empire; visiting the Wall's impressive remains is a useful reminder that even the greatest empires eventually fall šŸ˜‰

Near Hadrian’s Wall, Romans bred Salukis and Afghans 2,000 years ago. Vindolanda reveals a canine world more diverse—and advanced—than we ever imagined. #AncientDogs #Vindolanda #history #romanempire #archaeology

For #FindsFriday we have two boxwood combs, one of which was found still in its leather pouch in the Commanding Officer’s residence at #Vindolanda and dating to before 100 C.E.

All combs found were made on the continent and imported.

I just saw a pair of second hand shoes described as ā€˜New in Bog’ and thought of this.

Perfectly preserved Roman woman’s sandal.
