Right wingers are furious that Talarico talks about how we as a society should treat the sick and the poor to follow the teachings of Jesus. They hate that - they just want to promote the vengeful god of the old testament. And they believe anyone who is poor deserves whatever happens to them.

I’m agnostic but Matthew 25:40 is relevant here “Whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
