A 1983 trip to the Bayeux Tapestry, recorded in the holiday scrapbook by my mum. Two adults, three children, of whom I was one. I don't recall much of the tapestry, but do remember that my attention span was much shorter than that of the grown-ups! (Anna, LS8) #UoLTapestry

#UoLTapestry 2/2 Our guide showed us how to paddle our feet to 'awaken' the quicksand. It was obvious how the tramping feet of William of Normandy's soldiers would have done just that. It's technically impossible to sink in quicksand - but deadly with heavy armour/weapons and the tide rushing in...

My #UoLTapestry #BayeuxTapestry story for the archive: My favourite part of the Tapestry is the episode at the Mont Saint-Michel, when Harold Godwinson rescues William's men from the quicksand. This summer, I retraced their footsteps by the Couesnon River, to experience the quicksand for myself. 1/2
