ICYMI: Europe's most scenic train routes, ranked by the ride itself #TrainTravel #ScenicRoutes
We rode the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner south to San Diego today and, boy, is this train aptly named. The stretch near San Clemente was dramatic! The train was close enough to the surf to get sprayed and it felt like we were running over beach debris at one point. #Amtrak #trains #traintravel 😅

We follow the coast.
An armada of turbines
dance far out at sea.
Up on the hillside,
a man is riding a cow.
Oh. No, it’s a horse.
Comfy seat, sunshine,
and the rhythm of the train.
I… can’t… stay… awake.
Came to this place once.
It was SO disappointing.
I’ve not been back since.
From a small island,
train rolls onto the mainland.
Also an island.
Flying, this journey
would take half the time. But look,
where’s the fun in that?
This station may be
all seventeen syllables
without needing help.
First train: two countries.
Then taxi and ferry. Now
train two, country three.
Now we’re running late,
which could mean missed connection.
Tension is rising.
Sun breaking through clouds.
Heron fishing at a weir.
Gull catches a crab.
We cross a river.
Tidal. Mudflats. Ships hugging
tight against quaysides.
Outside a station
we stop on a viaduct,
stare over rooftops.
