The Library Terrible Comic Thursday Special!

#Comics #TheLibrary

Single-panel comic, the banner reads THE LIBRARY Terrible Comic Thursday. The Library leather jacket-clad protagonist Slightly Fox stands to the left of the panel, arms crossed, and asks the Head Librarian, "Mr Ibis, why did I just see Dracula in the library?" Mr Ibis, a man in a linen suit with the head of an ibis, looks at us as he replies, "He likes to sink his teeth into a good book."

Wanna see a bit of drawing process from The Library?

Of course you do.

Initial sketch, refined sketch, tidied ink drawing, and finally with the halftone layers added.

More details in the alt-text.

#Comics #TheLibrary

Four panels on a tan background of The Library protagonist Slightly Fox in close-up. Top left is the initial sketch, in orange, drawn at the first layout stage. Additional elements in a drawing are added in blue, on another layer, to keep them separate during the process. Top right is the refined sketch overlaid on the original orange. This is cleaner and tighter than the first sketch. Bottom left is the finished drawing with line weights checked and cleaned, and the background blacked in. Bottom right is the finished drawing with the three halftone layers added underneath, a dark, medium and light pattern, each 'cut' to shape without overlapping. As the comic has progressed, I have altered my process slightly so that the whole page is fully drawn before the halftones are added as three full-page layers, rather than under each seperate drawing. This is slightly faster, and keeps the relative shading more consistent.

Halftone shading finished, so that's another page complete, and the corrections done on a previous page.

A busy few hours for a Saturday 🤔

A full page drawn today!

A couple of hours this afternoon and another three this evening and now it's done.

It'll take another session to get the halftones in, but that's a result!

The frame in the post below didn't make it. Things change when they hit the page. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The Library Terrible Comic Thursday Special!

#Comics #TheLibrary

Single-panel comic, the banner reads THE LIBRARY Terrible Comic Thursday. The Library leather jacket-clad protagonist Slightly Fox stands to the left of the panel, arms crossed, and asks the Head Librarian, "Mr Ibis, why are the maths books so unhappy?" Mr Ibis, a man in a linen suit with the head of an ibis, looks at us as he replies, "Because they're full of problems."

A day editing today, which resulted in seven pages being condensed into five so it's all punchier.

All the text boxes are in and it's all laid out properly with sketches and references ready.

Which means the next step is the fun stuff - drawing!

#Comics #TheLibrary

A quick and scruffy digital sketch of Slightly Fox, Library Protagonist! Yeah, she's pissed at something. Again.
