OCTPOWRIMO 2026-Number 16-The Colour Orange:

I have a connection with a solar shade
Up in the sky, it flies, without aid
Burning open skin, warming up the ground
Orange boils the Sun, where darkness drowned

I have a connection with a fluffy shade
Bundled in fur, once seen, they fade
Hiding in the hedge, barking warnings
Orange guards the Fox, haunting mornings

I have a connection with a passing shade
Right under foot, a crinkle in the glade
Falling pieces, from the branch to the ground
Orange withers the Leaf, waiting to be found

I have a connection with a brandished shade
One county over, they march, cars delayed
Spinning their wands and drumming up tempers
Orange marks the Order, formed from embers

I have a connection with a violent shade
Attached to a brute in a suit, soon to fade
Floundering his words, her people, her name
Orange tans the Trump, gambling lives for fame

I have a connection, a connection, nothing more
Colours surround us, they're a hue at their core

As sure as red is spilt by the hands of puny power
As sure as blue is used by the brains that data shower
As sure as green is sown by the blades that cull the weeds
As sure as I am destined to be cast back onto seeds

Spring turns to Summer, turns to Autumn, turns to Winter
I have a connection to the wood through a splinter.
