This is one from #Tenement I've shared many times before. The idea of the Tenement being a living thing that's digesting them is sort of a recurring image. (Would that count as personification?)

Everywhere you went in the Tenement, the ceilings were just a little too low, the walls just a little too close together. Even though the building was, as far as we knew, infinite—or so mind-bogglingly huge it might as well have been—you still always felt cramped, pressed upon. Never quite able to shake the notion that those narrow halls, with their buzzing yellow lightbulbs and their stained and fading wallpaper, were uncannily like some kind of creaky wooden intestinal tract, and we were all constantly in the process of being digested.
But you got used to that too.

#Tenement: Noah compares himself most to his mom (and other people do too). He wants to live up to his idealized version of her as a brave, clever rebel who dared to question the Tenement, but he also wants to do better than her & succeed where he thinks she failed.

#Tenement:
The Tenement is another labyrinth, a very grim one where all the people have been trapped for a long time. It represents a couple of things: the tangled mess of capitalism that devours people's souls, the monotonous view of the world that comes with religious indoctrination...

The rather odd roof suggests this building is the surviving stump of a tenement, where the upper floors have been demolished at some point in the post-war years.

I love the details around the entrance to this shop on the corner of Byres Road and Vinicombe Street in the West End of Glasgow. Buillt around 1890, one of its first occupants was J.S. Fleming, an ironmonger, blacksmith and cycle agent.

#AwesomeCharacters

*looks around at all my characters*

... I think I might be chronically incapable of writing an MC who isn't curious 😂

I'd say it's most plot-relevant to Noah from #Tenement, out of all of them. But getting to the truth no matter the danger is kinda recurring theme in my WIPs.

#Tenement:

Noah - results, results, results. He loves breaking rules and maybe could be tempted to go against his own better judgment if the payoff was good enough...

Kazuo - results... but more honor than you might think

Jon - All honor, always

Nat - Hmm 50/50? Depends on the situation...

#Tenement - My choice would be Theodore Shapiro, the guy who did the Severance soundtrack. The vibes are really similar to what I'd want!

Another choice would be James Newton Howard. One of my favorite scores of his is the Village, which was an inspiration for Tenement.

A lovely example of Victorian floor tiles at the entrance to a tenement close in the North Kelvinside area of Glasgow.

Right now she wears it out of defiance, but later she'll stop (and be embarrassed about her former self wearing it 😣)

Kena wears an orichalcum necklace with pointed rays like the sun.

#Tenement:
Not much jewelry available to wear 😅 But even if there were, Noah's not really a jewelry guy.

Ok Pam I'm gonna copy you and post 2 snips 😂

The first is from #GodsOfAtalantis Book 2, close 3rd person/Mireia's POV. Second is Noah's 1st person POV from #Tenement.

When I really lock in to Mimi, I feel like I go for a strong flowy rhythm that's a little unpredictable.🧵

She’d never felt so small.
She’d never felt so fragile.
She’d never felt so—desperate.
Kena.
Desperate to reach out and touch a hand in the darkness, and find reassurance that she wasn’t alone here after all. Desperate to feel that something still meant something, that life still had something supporting it. Desperate to do something—to do everything—before she lost her chance and it was all ripped away from her forever.
Kena.
It was all so absurdly fragile—all of it. She saw that now. She’d had a glimpse of it before when her father died, but the truth of it hadn’t really flattened her back then the way it was doing now.
It had all always been fragile. Yet what had she been doing all this time? Playing silly games, procrastinating, telling herself “soon” or “maybe tomorrow.” Letting her fears and foolish pride stop her. Assuring herself that there was no need to act now because it was all inevitable anyway. Debating with herself over pointless philosophical questions about fate and free will when it didn’t really matter, did it? The only thing that mattered was that it was all going to end, one way or another, maybe sooner, maybe later. The only thing that mattered was reaching out into that abyss and finding a hand to grasp so that you knew you weren’t really alone.
Kena.

A red sandstone Edwardian tenement rising above Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's Sixty Steps on the north bank of the River Kelvin in Glasgow.

#Tenement:

Noah is fairly good at short-term planning, but he's usually not thinking more than 2-3 steps ahead. If he's in an immediate predicament he's good at formulating a plan & executing it. But long-term stuff? He's completely winging it in that case.

Love this red sandstone corner tenement on Carmunnock Road in the Mount Florida area of Glasgow.

#Tenement:
Mortimer is just doing what he thinks is best and trying to save everyone from dying in the dark! Unfortunately that means making some hard decisions, but if that's what the Tenement demands...

#Charagma:
Once again my long list of antagonists 😅
We won't count Mem since she's an MC,

#GodsOfAtalantis: Mireia, my little chaos gremlin ❤️

#Tenement: YA KNOW... I was gonna say Kazuo, but he mostly talks about doing crazy stuff. Noah actually does it 😂

#Charagma: Hmm... I may change my mind once I actually write the story, but I think probably Julius.

A rather Thomsonesque 1880s tenement on the corner of Great Western Road and Oakfield Avenue in the West End of Glasgow. The recessed corner and the roundels on the first floor lintel are straight out of the 'Greek' Thomson playbook.
