I've just updated this page so that (hopefully) it checks whether you're being consistent in going left or right of the middle where there's an even number of values (left) to check. #TeamCompSci

GCSE results may look flat, but the reality behind the numbers tells a very different story.
Our latest blog explores grade 4, comparable outcomes, the challenges facing schools & what GCSE results really tell us.
Lessons here:
1. Update your software promptly
2. Don't connect your fridge to the internet

Is it more interesting to create things or to check them? The big problem with the "verification tax" is that the result is probably no better but the work becomes a tedious chore. Using AI is like the opposite of automation. #TeamCompSci

When I was a student in the 80s we were told that the hardware had a similar complexity to an ant's brain, but the software lagged behind. We still used computers, though, because they were relatively fast and didn't get bored. Things have probably moved on slightly since then. #TeamCompSci

Is our education system set up for students to fail?
Around a third of students don’t achieve a grade 4 in English or maths. But is that failure?
We talk GCSE results, grade boundaries & suggest a rather provocative alternative!
Although you can see the values being searched in GCSE binary search questions, I just had the idea that it would make a better screen-based activity if you can't see them - what do you think? #TeamCompSci

💾 ROM = Read-Only Memory… except you can write to it. 🤔
From PROM & EPROM to EEPROM & flash memory, ROM has evolved quite a bit!
So why is it still called ROM? Find out 👇
I've been switching an Access database to MySQL and have found some interesting differences in the SQL, e.g. MySQL will let you ORDER using an alias created with AS (whereas Access won't), but you can't use HAVING on a field that you haven't SELECTed (whereas in Access you can). #TeamCompSci
Presumably we won't be getting this imminently, but it shows that it's possible. #TeamCompSci

Is AI really the answer to teacher workload?
Dave chats with AI & edtech expert Kat about AI in schools - from lesson planning and tutoring to safeguarding, hallucinations and the dangers of over-reliance.
