I totally forgot about a #SundaySentence as I’m away on a writing retreat, sweating over my own currently imperfect sentences. In lieu, please accept pics of this chickadee coming in hot and putting on the binders. #birdsky

Paul Auster (The Brooklyn Follies) #SundaySentence

“Reading was my escape and my comfort, my consolation, my stimulant of choice: reading for the pure pleasure of it, for the beautiful stillness that surrounds you when you hear an author's words reverberating in your head.”

As I watch this quicksilver being moving through its environment, I ask myself: How does this animal, who has more neurons in its limbs than in its brain, who tastes with its grasp, whose skin can sense light, see the world? #SundaySentence by Ray Nayler, The Mountain in tne Sea

Anita Brookner, "Fraud," 1992

This novel has more of an ensemble cast than some (most?) of AB's books. The usual solitary woman at its centre is just one of several characters of various ages, male & female, who are in her orbit and whose inner lives are represented.

#SundaySentence 📚 #Brookner

Mrs Marsh thought she knew the sort of friend her son
might call upon at past ten o'clock at night: one of the
Dianas or Janes he sometimes mentioned, throwing them
at her in bulk, as it were, so that she would not suspect any
one of them and would thus be still further occluded from
his life.

... and maybe one of these Sundays, we should take your lead and pose with our #SundaySentence sources!

As the leaves of trees are said to absorb all noxious qualities of the air, and to breathe forth a purer atmosphere, so it seems to me as if they drew from us all sordid and angry passions, and breathed forth peace and philanthropy.

You look like one of those illustrations in old medical journals, she gasped.
"Listen, Roz, I've only been flayed, it's still me."
She looked up at me and smiled. Wiped a strand of dripping flesh from my cheek.

And then I made an omelette with two of those eggs, and folded it into a pita spread with yellow amba and sweet cherry tomatoes and brought the sandwich with me to Re’im, where the Nova desert rave was held and where the massacre had taken place; I was covering the ceremony for the Tribe of Nova, the community of ravers gathering for their own October 7 memorial.

Every Sunday morning, distant church bells from the Baptists and Methodists tinkled like ice cubes in a glass, and a saying of her mother's always crossed [her] mind: thirst after righteousness.

A #SundaySentence from Jason Mott's "People Like Us."

the text pictured reads: The language of the dead is only ever smoke and puffs of wind and, sometimes, a plot of land off in the distance, unseeable in the darkened night, but always there, beckoning us to stay or come back to it, depending on where we are in time at that moment when the evening wind blows just so.
