Twelve emails, same question. That's not an inbox problem. It's one lecture moment telling you exactly where to revise. Fix it once, and the emails stop. lectureminutes.com · t.me/LectureMinutes_Bot #HigherEd #SoTL #LectureMinutes

Working memory holds only a few items at once, and everything competes for that space: new information, distractions, task complexity.

We mapped the systems behind learning on one whiteboard. Which kind of load could you cut from your next class session? #AcademicSky #HigherEd #SoTL

Whiteboard titled Cognitive Architecture of Learning: the internal systems that shape how we learn, think, and understand. Ten numbered panels. 1. Working memory constraints: a head holding about 4 plus or minus 1 items, competing with incoming information, prior knowledge, distractions, emotions and task complexity, above a cognitive load balance of intrinsic, germane and extraneous load. 2. Schema formation: new information assimilated into or accommodating existing schemas. 3. Retrieval practice loops: retrieve, find the gap, strengthen, repeat with spacing, plus a forgetting curve that stays higher with retrieval practice. 4. Knowledge transfer systems: abstract principles carry learning from a source context to a new one. 5. Metacognitive regulation: plan, monitor, evaluate. 6. Attention allocation: a filter from the environment to focus to comprehension, with distractions competing for attention. 7. Cognitive overload thresholds: a gauge from boredom through an optimal zone to overload. 8. Long-term memory consolidation: encoding, consolidation, storage and retrieval, with spaced practice keeping memory strength longer than cramming. 9. Feedback and revision cycles: attempt, feedback, compare, adjust the mental model. 10. Active learning architectures: a passive pathway leading to fragile memory beside an active cycle of question, practice, discuss and reflect. A footer lists principles of effective learning and design implications. Produced by FPxP Learning Systems Lab.

This months Cigar of the Month Club from Holts Cigar Co. I’ve lost count of how many months an Argyle cigar was included. Never enjoyed them. Evidently Holts can’t sell them so CotMC is only way to move the product.

The figure explores how the 4M framework (micro, meso, macro and mega) can help us reimagine Students as Partners in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). It highlights how students can contribute not only to local enhancement projects but also to institutional and sector-wide change, while developing valuable skills, confidence, networks and scholarly identities along the way.

Yes as one of my least favourite line managers, a Deputy VC and famous #SoTL person used to say 'more is not better, better is better - and you need time and space for that'. Never practiced what they preached. Retired. 🙄 #LTHEChat
