šŸ†•News: On Sept. 15 and 16, the NGO Working Group on Human Rights Education and Learning, chaired by SGI, held side events during the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. On Sept. 15, the group co-sponsored a workshop with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to discuss, through theater, the human rights of children in situations of armed conflict and violence. The same day, Elisa Gazzotti of the SGI Office for UN Affairs, a co-chair of the working group, delivered a statement on its behalf at a High-Level Panel discussion on Human Rights Education and Training. She noted that 15 years after the adoption of the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training (2011), the first to establish international standards for human rights education, a large gap remains between commitments and implementation. She called for stronger, more systematic monitoring, including a more robust mechanism to assess implementation. The following day, the group co-hosted an event with the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Lebanon, Mongolia, Italy, Slovenia, the Philippines and Thailand, where participants reviewed achievements and challenges since the declaration's adoption and discussed priorities for achieving further progress.
