Zero competition, a total blue
ocean to trauma dump in this spring day.
The way society produces you.

If you do this one thing once a week you
will completely change your life. Park your
proud
scooter on seafront without a seaview
landwards. It's not retirement. Shout it loud.

If stressed, isolated and broke, console
yourself with scrolling you can't afford.
Shadow banking repossessed your one sole
scooter from the cheap, derelict seaboard.

1.
The surface gleams dully; I can
smell faint sharpness where the
fluids linger and the thin card
curls, is sticky still.
It's smooth and slightly cool;
it has to be held flat
against the page.

2.
It is a fragment. Of dimensions
two remain (a third sustains
the image, and the fourth is frozen).
Replacing memory – restoring, or
the bringing into being of
what would otherwise have no
existence – one particle of flow,
a harmony alone.

3.
The gleam of sun upon your skin
caught, shuttered, held and
now transformed; the salt of
silver blackened, scarred, and
later squeezed through prisms onto
thin and slightly sticky card.

4.
It serves to move me from
one frame into another.
There is rarely any reason
for the choice of moments —
there is rarely any
choice, in fact.
I steal your scattered
instants for my future use;
I search them out when
instants never seem enough.

Lethargic

In a dark damp pit of black he sits,
no movement or breath he permits.
Others watch and pass unknown to either.

He sees himself and knows only his void,
the endless black where ambition is destroyed.
Like the light, all his senses are crushed.

A pit this deep where the only escape is sleep
and in his waking hours he can only weep.
But this pit is not a depth unreachable,
For it is dug by the darkness of his mind, and filled by its light.
