What remains? Words
taken out, discarded.
Somewhere, perhaps,
there is a heart-shaped heart,
embroidered with the unsaid:
your name in red like a curse,
over and over,
a heartbeat
fluttering out of time.
Wandering through memories
That red string of fate
In a forest of thoughts and dreams
Searching for an escape
Ever seeking
The end of silence
Yet afraid of what could be
What happens next
Bound by words spoken long ago
Unable to rest
Hoping to depart from
This place of secrets

Follow my story if you will
I can't stay long to tell it
Now that you have the time
I don't have the time
Not much anymore
Hospice is at the door
Bring out the photos
Record my voice
Memory will be a poor substitute

(From a talk with a friend re: parents reaching end of life care)
No need for my voice
Old songs fill the moments
Empty house
#sensewrds 281
The weary traveller
packs his bags
eager to make their way
tires of seeing the same old faces
break the filament
of staying still
time to move on to new surroundings
and breathe in fresh air

#SenseWrds ,
why must I,
alone, carry the weight
of what's been lost?
it is beyond measure,
and I wonder
is there no justice?
I cannot stitch the story
of what was and what is
you can see the seam
it used to be.

and I keep pacing in my mind
as if walking

the fates are watching and waiting
a skein of cotton unraveling
into a future they're weaving
the present rapidly receding
and all that was certain ~

I knew my path lay elsewhere, but I had to pause here a bit. You don't see things like this just anywhere. It was one more marker that confirned I was going the right way, but still. I won't be long here. The road won't let me. I'm still too close to being too far. #SenseWrds Prompt 282

You think it will be green regardless of how it is formed. It is beautiful but only tells part of the story. There is a green that can be confused with the finest emerald. There is a pink to cleanse your auras. Step into my shop. I will educate you.

Prompt 281.
On a cold November morning the guns fell quiet. The men emerged from their bunkers and their trenches, stared across a shattered wasteland at men who, moments before, had been their mortal enemies. Nobody spoke.
bright patch of sunshine
sweet solace under the oak
time — a silhouette
bound between sound of falling leaves
where you reach for my hand

Her words.
Her way.
Her time.
She doesn't owe anyone
her quiet or her noise.
She is an archive
and a bomb.
Hear that? Her heart.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
Cut any wire.
Cut all the wires.
She won't stop.
Tedious ticking,
Mercilessly muted while
Hiding from horror.

#sensewrds 280 varying, distances, jade
Elements of luck and longevity,
peach and plum blossom,
a bird. The green of the day
recedes, faded brushstrokes
on parchment, porcelain,
a bridge to the other side.
#sensewrds 279 drifting, frayed, violets
These purple delights have purple ends
rudderless, inexorably carried to the open sea
the fabric of the world unseamed.

Silenced words
chill my
otherwise singed heart
Burning embers
fizzling out
in the petrichor of your dream
My only screen
between your truth
and my half-hearted denial
Dredges out
lifetimes
of moments
in a few
teary-eyed blink...

She remembers the sounds her belly made at night, gurgling in the dark while her brother slept, but she doesn't remember ever feeling hungry.
Instead she remembers the fairy tales and the nightmares, her confusion about which parts of her life were real.
They tried to stifle our songs of hope
they wouldn't allow us a place out of the rain
Time took us further away
There was no bread for our hunger
dreams slipped away in silence
no moment to find solace
