Wealth was flowing just not where SS could tax it. Cost of living soared the rich got richer and the middle class got squeezed 1st in stagnant wages, and now shrinking SS benefits. This HAS to figure into the current debate. The only way to fix it is to #ScrapTheCap before the whole thing collapses.

@jessicabriedl.bsky.social I wish someone would address the long term reason SS is in trouble. Starting in the 70s, more of the wealth created in a booming economy was diverted AWAY from workers and TO the investor class. SS got slowly starved for revenue, as the rich got richer.

#ScraptheCap Why was there a SS cap anyway? Just because you earn more doesn’t mean you won’t collect SS. In fact, it’s your money so why shouldn’t you keep paying into the fund when the rest of us do.
