Lookin' for some hot stuff: San Diego doesn't hit 96° AT ALL most YEARS, much less 4 times in 2 WEEKS like it has this month. Fifteen of the years since 2000 didn't have a single day that hit 96. The four times this month is the most in any year since at least 2000. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

San Diego has hit at least 96° this afternoon. Crazy hot. But what's more remarkable, 96° would only rank as the 4th hottest day of the month. Still time to go higher.
Hottest days of October in San Diego so far:
Oct. 3: 105
Oct. 4: 100
Oct. 5: 97
Oct. 16: 96 (as of 4 p.m.)

We're getting blown around pretty good here in inland North County this afternoon. Every few minutes I'm hearing something thrash or crash in the yard. But it's been nothing like the San Diego County foothills, which have seen gusts of 80 mph. #sandiegoweather #CA

A heat advisory is in effect for the coastal zone. San Diego could top 90° for the sixth time this month. The city never hit 90° in all of 2025. In terms of the average high, this is the city's hottest first half of October in 153 years of weather records. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Could see the ocean clearly from Iron Mountain in Poway this afternoon. We feared a very warm hike, but there was just enough breeze to keep it comfortable. A few gusts were in the 20-25 mph range on the east side. It should be much windier there on Friday due to a Santa Ana. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Let me make this perfectly clear: The nearest cloud is a few hundred miles from San Diego this morning. #sandiegoweather

Not exactly a big chill, but San Diego did get down to at least 56° this morning, the coolest it's been in town since May 5. Ramona dropped to 43. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

If the entire county hadn't just been drenched, the coming Santa Ana later this week might be something to worry about. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

With the light rain overnight, San Diego has recorded 1.04 inches the last 3 days. That's more than double the normal amount for all of October (0.50). A station on Palomar Mountain topped 6 inches, and many mountain spots topped 4 inches. Bye bye fire danger, for now anyway. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

A station on Palomar Mountain recorded 5.16 inches of rain the last 2 days. The mountains are parched no more. San Diego came up just short of 1 inch. But the weather service expects a little more rain over the next couple of days that could push the week's total over an inch. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

The San Diego River at Fashion Valley is expected to reach the so-called "action" level this morning. That's when barriers go up at low spots and getting around Mission Valley gets tricky. But no significant damage is expected. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Here's how much more rain the weather service thinks we'll get today. This was posted at 4:50 this morning. The mountains could get another half inch from a separate storm Monday and Tuesday, with a couple of tenths more possible in the valleys and a tenth or so at the coast. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

How wet can it get? At 10:30 last night, we'd recorded about 0.3 of an inch of rain here in inland North County. By 7:15 this morning, we were over 2.3. Palomar Mountain is at the top of the leaderboard, with 3.17 as of 7 a.m. This is San Diego's biggest storm since February. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Rainfall totals are climbing, with many hours of at least moderate rain likely into Sunday night. Totals so far are mostly higher in South County, but North County is catching up. The storm is easing the fire risk, at least temporarily, at a time when it is often at its peak. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

Haven't been able to say this for many months this hot year: If you live in S.D. County & have automatic sprinklers, you can turn them off & leave 'em off for a week or more. The bulk of the rain should fall tonight & early Sunday, but it should be moist & cool into Tuesday. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

@eyesonsdskies.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 2:44 PM

Here's how much rain the weather service predicts for various communities between about noon today and early Tuesday: Oceanside, 1.15 inches; San Diego, 1.27; Chula Vista, 1.33; Fallbrook, 1.22; La Mesa, 1.38; Palomar Mountain, 2.26; Mount Laguna, 1.81; Borrego Springs, 0.65. #sandiegoweather #CAwx
