That we may be bound together by your Holy Spirit in the communion of Saint Luke & all your saints, entrusting one another & all our life to Christ.

We entreat you, O Lord.

"Honor physicians for their services,
for the Lord created them,
their gift of healing
comes from the Most High,
& they are rewarded by the king.
The skill of physicians
makes them distinguished,
& in the presence of the great
they are admired."

Luke 4: 14-21

Jesus, filled with the power of the Spirit, returned to Galilee, and a report about him spread through all the surrounding country. He began to teach in their synagogues and was praised by everyone.
When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went to the synagogue on the sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him.

He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

And he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. Then he began to say to them, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

A C17th painting of a bearded man seated at a table working on a sculpture of the Madonna and Child. Behind him is a taller table heaped high with books, both opened and closed. Above him, cherubim look down from a cloud. At the right edge of the painting is a picture on an easel, next to a mahlstick, that depicts the Madonna and Child. There are cut roses and rose petals on the table and the floor. Under the table sits a little dog. Behind the statue on which the man is working is the head of an ox, an attribute of St. Luke. At the top right is a window through which buildings are visible in the distance.

Almighty God,
you called upon Luke, the physician,
to be an evangelist,
and to be a physician of the soul.
By the grace of the Holy Spirit,
and through the medicine of the gospel,
allow us to continue that same work of love and healing,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
#Amen
