🌍 The {terra} documentation now clearly shows which calculations for longitude/latitude data use ellipsoidal algorithms (instead of treating the data as projected).

Read it at: rspatial.github.io/terra/refere...

Using a similar approach of using GeoParquet and the new ArcGIS ParquetLayer support from we're getting good performance with {arcgizviz}—though still not quite 4 seconds! 😅

GeoParquet and GeoArrow are the future 🚀

The {maposm} #RStats 📦 "downloads OpenStreetMap layers, which are then selected, simplified, merged or modified to create a set of composite layers of urban areas, buildings, green spaces, main roads, secondary roads, railways, and water bodies."-Timothée Giraud

I cannot emphasize enough how excited I am about {geoarrowwidget} and {deckglgeoarrow}. 3.2 **million** points in 4 seconds.

Whenever a dataset has location info, I like to start with a map.

This week’s #TidyTuesday data tracks urban green space since 1990 — and it’s global. First cut looks like it is trending toward less green area per person worldwide. #rstats #dataviz #rspatial

World map in an equal-area projection showing whether a country's urban green area per capita has increased or decreased since 1990. Countries with an increase in urban green area per capita from 1990 to 2020 are shown in blue, while those with a decrease are shown in orange. Countries without data are in gray.

Any #rspatial folks ever encountered an issue like this with leaflet.extras when using addSearchFeatures()? The zoom parameter doesn’t seem to work as expected when multiple groups with the same geometry are used, but seems fine with different geoms […]

Mapping projects often stall on missing licenses when collaborators don't have the same software. This year I've been using the sf package: open source, and I can share my work with anyone. What's your open source GIS stack? sf: [https://r-spatial.github.io/sf/](r-spatial.github.io/sf/) #rspatial
