Ever wondered how DOOM II originally sounded on a real 1990s PC? Here's the authentic OPL3 FM synthesis soundtrack, played through a Creative Sound Blaster Pro 2.0 on a period-correct Pentium 120!

I recorded a few classic demoscene modules on an original Gravis UltraSound. Enjoy! Full playlist:

So, here's a look at the PB 486 board I have been working on. Posting mainly because a) to help others just as frustrated with their projects as I am and b) in case someone sees something I missed. I'll keep at it! Link in reply.

Well, powers on, but doesn't get past Phoenix BIOS error code 66 (heh). 1-1-4-1 (beep, beep, 4 quick beeps, 1 continuous beep). Apparently something about configuring advanced cache registers. I do not have any external cache. Gotta look that one up later. Could be jumpers.

Got my work cut out for me...

This is after initial cleanup and battery removal. So far at least 7 bad traces. Came from a tower, so the battery mostly leaked down into the chassis. and yes, that 74F151 fell off. Pads still intact though! I have replacements.

Ahh yes, Schrodinger's PC! Has the battery vomited or not?

It's not even far from me. I'd put in an offer if I knew what was in store for me when I opened it. Even just a few damaged traces would be ok-ish.

Windows XP just got a Pascal-era plot twist. An unofficial mod adds GTX 10-series support, but testing is limited—this one’s for retro PC tinkerers, not your daily driver.

Someone asked if Half-Life runs on a 486.

I guess this is next

Same machine, three CPUs:
• 486DX4-100
• Am5x86-133
• POD 83
• Voodoo2

How far can we get?

PLEASE: no spoilers. I deliberately haven't looked up the results. 😄
