Five passages in, the book starts handing them back. A few of them set out each morning, chosen from what you kept. The leaf is the book rereading itself to you.

The colophon is the back page of your book, where the record of your keeping lives, dated. What you kept, when, and what it added up to. Not a leaderboard, a ledger.

Streaks survived the restart on purpose. A streak is not a score, it is a record of the days you showed up to your book. Miss a day and the record says so; keep one and it says that too.

A margin note counts toward something in the book now, but the point was always the note. "Read this on the train" is enough. The title comes later; the line you wrote beside the passage is what you keep.

The journal gives each day its own page. Not the day the book came out, the day you read it. Open the page from a month ago and you find the passages you kept and what you thought of them then.

The notebook is a page, not a feed: set a passage down, write beside it, add a stamp or a strip of tape. Slow on purpose.

Commonplace books were never meant to be tidy. Keep the line, date it, say one thing about it. The journal is what accumulates.

#readingjournal page for October finally made! Not much reading happened in September because life, but I’m still 7 books ahead of schedule to hit 95.

A journal you keep for life has to be able to leave with you. Your Locus Communis journal can be exported whenever you like; the notes and passages are yours.

A margin note doesn't have to be clever. "Read this on the train" is enough. A year on, the journal page still holds the line and what you thought of it that day.
#journaling #commonplacebook #readingjournal #booksky

Some margin notes are only for you. Private ink seals your private notes on your own device before they leave it.
#journaling #commonplacebook #readingjournal #booksky

Each day your book hands back a few passages you kept long ago. Write beside one and that note becomes today's journal entry.
#journaling #commonplacebook #readingjournal #booksky

Try a one-line reading log:
Title • author • status • finish date
Then, only if you want: “What stayed with me?”

Use one notes page or spreadsheet. Write longer reviews only for books you want to revisit. Leave unknown dates blank instead of guessing.

#ReadingJournal

Every note you write in the margin of a passage lands in your journal, on the page for the day you wrote it. Read for a year and you've kept a diary of your reading without sitting down to write one.

A good way to end the week: open your journal to today's page and write one line beside a passage you kept. Future you will be glad of the date on it.
