I'd never even heard of this movie until I saw it previewed on YouTube during Premium Rush (and @urbanrevolution.bsky.social and I then chatted about it), so I have no idea what from this might be considered #iconic, but I bet this line really hits for big #Quicksilver fans 🤩

I don't generally think actors do a great job incorporating their hands into their scene work (they tend to look like Ricky Bobby at a press conference), but Bacon has a real thoughtful way of gesticulating. I wonder how much he thought, specifically, about those gesticulations and rehearsed them! It doesn't feel rehearsed, but I bet he put some time in figuring out where in the frame those hands were going to be (plus this is in the trailer).This is just what I mean, though. Kevin Bacon is so interesting to watch that I'm even amused by breaking his performance down into minutiae. He's just got It, babyyy!I go as fast as I like, faster than anyone. A street sign says, 'one way, east,' [clap] 'I go west. They can't touch me. When I'm on a bike, I forget about... well, everything." That's good! This is a pretty aggressively mediocre script, but that line is why it got written at all, I bet, one of the big reasons.

Some actors just have It. Kevin Bacon has It. Whatever It is, he's got It.

He's such a compelling onscreen presence, especially in a closeup (tho his physicality in wider shots is also notable, even just in this #film). This script is NOT good, but he's elevating it.

He's talking about losing his nerve. It's VERY generic, placeholder dialogue (no offense to Thomas Michael Donnelly; we've all written mediocre screenplays, they're just usually not made into films), but Kevin Bacon makes this work. It's a bad sign that I'm calling him Kevin Bacon still, and not "Jack," and it speaks to how heavily the film is relying on Bacon's performance to make this anything. He's doing it, though! I'm invested, if not totally immersed in the 'reality' of this world.Yeahhhhh that's the good stuff. This is movies! He's got that ability to shift gears so fast; he seems quick-witted, Kevin Bacon, and that's including in interviews and real-life stuff I've seen and heard him in. I bet that's an asset as an actor, acting and reacting. He'd probably be a hell of a quick draw.

What an era 😆

I was technically not alive for it. I came around in July of '87, so I'm honestly not sure this movie even really exists (maybe just a hoax perpetrated by older people)

But I do remember the residue of this era from growing up. I was always, like, 'ew, yuck!'

This movie is really something. Apropos of (basically) nothing, Jack offers the cabbie $50 (back when that was real money) to 'beat' the bike messenger (or whatever, cyclist) 'to the station.'

Now we're in a full-on car-on-bike chase scene.

I talked to @urbanrevolution.bsky.social about this one earlier. Premium Rush was calamitously bad, but YouTube free movies recommended Quicksilver with Kevin Bacon the whole time I was watching it, and now I'm curious...

I will never, ever read romantasy again. I enjoy the fantasy part of #Quicksilver but nothing else. I guess it is a guy thing. How cliché is that. Fantasy is fun, but I will stick to

1) Thrillers
2) Sci-Fi
3) Fantasy
