Ideas that I couldn't get rid of.

Ideas that I couldn't get rid of.
My biggest 3 inspirations in terms or style are probably Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant, Maggie Stiefvater, & Holly Black.
Seanan is also a huge inspiration in terms of career. Oh how I long to have the kind of career she does, writing my own works & getting to be part of my fave IPs...
Not for sure specifically. But I have been recently reading the Junie B. Jones books by Beverly Cleary and while she can be annoying, I love Junie B's quirky, unapologetically bold attitude and all the chaotic situations she accidentally finds herself in.
G'day #pretendpanel attendees. This is an excellent question, and some of the answerd may surprise you.
First off, Jules Verne. You can thank him for my love of Steampunk. Then Sir Terry, for the humour, of course.
But also, Matthew Reilley. The fast paced action that reads like a movie is peak.

Mercedes Lackey.
Terry Brooks.
J. R. R. Tolkien. (Obligatory mention as someone who read his work and admires it.)
Terry Pratchett. (Only by reputation and desire to read his works eventually.)
On the opposite side of the same 🧵

For whom doth the writer scrawl?
LGBTQIA+ people.
Kinky people.
Erotica readers.
Smut readers (unofficially, for now, I have wild insecurities).
Me, damn it.
Not my Partner, Who has valid reasons to not read my stuff. (She has 🧵
#PretendPanel history. I read a lot of nonfiction, so I put a lot of that into my writing.
Apart from that, other stories. Pratchett is a big one; Ann Leckie too. LeGuin, a bit. Probably Eoin Colfer - Artemis Fowl was a big influence early on.

Hi. I'm Aura. I write because I will lose my mind if I do not write. Writing is in my soul, and according to my Partner, Who is right about almost all things (She knows She's not perfect and that's why I love Her), my greatest 🧵
Most of my inspiration is movies, cartoons, and anime. I was exposed to reading very positively by my parents which is why I jumped to writing instead of film/animation.

-Anyone who's been on the Write Anyway Summit by @suecampbell.bsky.social et al. Other neurodivergent authors too. The late Jane Austen. Many others, too many to count.

It's a LONG list...
Lin-Manuel Miranda & Sara Bareilles, the melody makers. Lots of rock bands too, listening to my boys Fall Out Boy right now. Inspiring words from Stephen Sondheim and Jonathan Larson. Bonnie Friedman's Writing Past Dark...
Life events end up being my main inspiration for the premises of most of my stories.
Shadow Cursed was inspired by internal rage and frustration over microaggressions and the fact that I find the premise of a necromancer being a medical examiner amusing.
Resist includes several...

#PretendPanel Oct 10:
Truthfully? Ellen Kushner and Delish Sherman, especially in their joint work of *The Fall of the Kings* novel (part of the Riverside series). They did spicy gay/queer scholarly fantasy when so few we're doing the same.

Oh, this is hard to answer... so many inspirations... all the authors I've read, classics, indies, all the fanfics, the erotic lits... poetry and historical books, so many... but perhaps my characters are my biggest source of inspiration, the way they show me their stories.
Blanket statement:
Indie authors and fanfic writers.
The people driven to do what they love in spite of the market.
T. Kingfisher (Ursula Vernon) inspires me in a couple of ways. I love the way she blends genre elements and includes humor in her work, but I also admire the open way she talks about her writing process and ADHD.
In no particular order, my writing is inspired by:
🔸️Things I've read.
🔸️People who've enjoyed things I've written.
🔸️My children, whose neurospicy disabled lives deserve to be in stories.
🔸️Manic Miner.
My disappointment in life and 99% of the human race is my muse
And self-loathing
That's a big one
Maybe this sounds a 'lil egotistical, #PretendPanel, but I'm gonna say it anyway...
Former versions of ourself.
And not because they were a good writer. In fact, the exact opposite. Our former host, Chels, assumed a state of being that was a mere shell of a person. She created an identity...

#PretendPanel Honestly? I read Twilight and thought I could do better. 👀 Mind you my first attempts weren't good, but now I've locked in and getting it done.
