雑誌 #POPEYE は80年代に入ると奇抜な特集も目立つようになってくる。
1982年4/25号は「女のコ見るだけカタログ。」読者モデルや素人女性の私的情報をカタログ的に紹介。中でも素人モデル時代の甲田益也子やデビュー間もない中森明菜らがまだ小さな扱いなのに驚き。

1981年4/25号は「地上最強のコレクション特集」。こちらはコレクション好きの男性ばかりをカタログ的に紹介。若かりし日の泉麻人やイラストレーターの永井博、「殺人現場写真」をコレクションする在りし日の水木しげる諸氏の姿も。今や「伯父さん」のイメージが強い沼田元気氏がボタンコレクターの青年として登場しているのが一番の驚きだった。

カルチャー特集全一冊の #POPEYE を探した結果見つけた2冊。
1977年12/11号の #STARWARS 特集は第一作が日本公開直前で高まる期待のリアルタイム感が甦る。
1978年4/25号の #SF 特集はペーパーバックからコミック、映画、音楽、雑貨まで「SF感」のあるものを凝縮して紹介。特撮映画専門誌 #STARLOG を意識したような一冊。

秋の古本市にて。
雑誌 #POPEYE (平凡出版 ＊現マガジンハウス)の70〜80年代刊行号が多く目についた。大半はIVYなどのファッションか、SKIやテニス・ジョギングなどのスポーツ特集が目立つ中、カルチャー特集だけに着目してDIGしたところ全一冊カリブ特集(1979年8/25号)を発見!
カリブの島々の歴史や雑学に加え、レゲエ・サルサなどの音盤紹介、ラスタファリズムの解説などディープな内容。
特に興奮したのは特集全ページに必ず一つ #河村要助 のイラストが添えられていること！その数50枚近くが掲載されており、ちょっとした画集としても眼福の一冊。

Been on a weird #Popeye the Sailor kick lately. Bought the collection of 1933-38 cartoons on DVD as well as a hardback collection of the original comics by EC Segar, so...here we are.
