OCTPOWRIMO 2026-Number 12-Lycanthropy: Luminescent reflections on the lake before me Reminding my mind of what I used to proudly be Successful, desired, unexpectedly loved Now sullen, despondent, unnaturally shoved In one direction, then another, fed blood Sleeping in my mouth, a brother, reddish flood Of memories once meaningful, now forced to be strange Each time I see the Moon, I undergo that same change They're disappearing... The very structure of my mind and my sight Beginning to fester into blinding light Ending up tired before a gun fires straight At my flavoured expression of what I'd just ate Their faces are predictable every time that I dine Hopeless expectation to pay the ultimate fine Belligerent blubbers of threats to my body Shivering shoulders at my newfound hobby They're screaming... And they will, again, once more, for years The woods pick up words sharp as spears Remnants of meals left over in spades Relinquished to live in abandoned glades Sun brings back the boredom of skin My mind stays heavied from the sin Bullet holes hurt Blood does spurt I check my hovel for a clean shirt.
