An updated "How It Started/How It's Going." I mined a journal I kept when I was 13 to write I THINK I THINK A LOT, so many of the worries I had are worries the character in the book struggles with.

In honor of #OCDAwarenessWeek... I couldn't let the week pass by without introducing my most recent FMC.
Bethany Husson is a 25-year-old woman living in Northern California. If you asked her about herself, she'd say she's a dangerous, perverted criminal.

OCD: intrusive, persistent obsessions cause real distress. Compulsions are an attempt to find relief from fear. Autistic routines: often bring calm, support processing, and make the world navigable. Removing them isn't treatment. It makes things harder. #OCDAwarenessWeek

The Autistic Girls Network logo appears at the top left. Large purple and coral text reads: “Research shows that autistic people are more likely to be diagnosed with OCD than non-autistic people.” At the bottom, smaller purple text reads: “Source – study by Meier et al. (2015).” The background is a pale lavender gradient.

When you hear of obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), you might think of cleaning, tidying or liking things in a certain order.

But OCD is much more complex than that.

I was lucky enough to know Amber for a while, one of the most fascinating people I've ever met. OCD is one of the most debilitating and disabling forms of #mentalillness, and exposure therapy needs to be better available. #OCDAwarenessWeek #mentalhealth

You don't experience obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) because you like your books colour coded or your cupboards neat.

It's a mental health condition. Not an adjective or a quirk.

For #OCDAwarenessWeek, find out more about this misunderstood condition 👉 https://bit.ly/4o87BLm

Text on a purple speech bubble against a beige background reads: "OCD has absolutely nothing to do with ‘enjoying cleaning’." Below, smaller text says: "We need to stamp out this harmful stigma..."

I actually scheduled this post months ago and had meant to add to it. 😆 I'll probably be posting more as #ocdawarenessweek continues. 🥰

Hey y'all! It's International #OCDAwarenessWeek.

I have struggled my entire life with an OCD type most people don't know about. I've never mentioned it.

Existential OCD is a relentless, debilitating obsession with the very nature of existence.

Sound like you? You are not alone. 🧡

@americanbrainco.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:05 PM

OCD is a debilitating mental disorder that affects 1 in 40 adults in their lifetime and 1 in 100 children but is often overlooked and belittled as a personality quirk or choice. In reality, OCD is a very real disorder that affects people of all ages and walks of life.

October contains #ocdawarenessweek so here is my talk at The Row House Forum on my experience with #OCD. I read one or two poems, too. Please feel free to listen and share if you think it might help someone. Feedback welcome.
