It would be nice if people in #NYCDHS shelters were allowed to bring their animals. DHS rules allow #EmotionalSupportAnimals, but workers refuse to allow even certified service animals already approved as a disability accommodation.
They found many deficiencies, eg. tarps and buckets to catch water from a leaking roof, but none of them were unusual in the #NYCDHS system. It's not just this veterans' shelter that warehouses people in conditions below human dignity; the whole DHS system does.
#OnThisDate in 2015, #MayorDeBlasio, #CardinalDolan, and #NYCDHS Commissioner #GilbertTaylor announced the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of NY would provide 1000 shelter beds with social services. (Has anyone seen those beds?)

I wonder what lost-and-found policies the #NYCDHS and the #BoweryMission have, and what happens to stuff homeless people have been separated from by #AbusiveShelterTransfers and ejections.
Here's How to Get Into a #HomelessShelter in New York City. Note that some #NYCDHS intake shelters have moved; call 311 to find out where to go.
